In the previous experience story, I wrote that providing welcoming and attentive experiences didn’t have to cost much.

Great experience is different for a 3 star and 5 star hotel. Their guests seek different experiences, have different needs and wants, expectations and eventually – mindset.

But even a 1 star hotel can provide a great experience for their guests.

Beautiful examples are capsule hotels in Japan where they were invented.

There are thousands of similar capsule hotels but some successfully stand out, all in different ways.

Some opted for the mix of high-tech and modern art on the capsules’ walls, which helped them reach millennials.

Others chose to be women only, designed in pastel pink color with cleanliness and safety as two main priorities.

Another offers experience of flying in a private jet. Still capsules but with mini bars, beauty products and fancier sheets.

And some were more creative, offering books and bed experiences of sleeping in a bookcase, where capsules are placed in between rows of books.

None of these are the cheapest option. But they are well known and have their audience who is ready to pay more for the features they market.

Providing service that is better than average in your category costs money. And if you are consistent and deliver what you promise, people are willing to pay for it.

It shouldn’t be marketing and branding that cost, but creating, delivering and improving guest experience now and here.

Note: These stories are here to inspire. However, we are not saying their realisation is perfect.

What can you learn from this example to improve your hotel?
