“Money makes the world go round.”

But not everyone are motivated by it.

ASSUMING you are already paying your team fair rates so the expected baseline of service quality is something they understand clearly and do their best to meet.

But you want more of them. That baseline is just the beginning of extraordinary service.

How do you motivate your team to go above and beyond?

More money.

More power.

Less responsibilities.

More fun.

Public recognition.

Promotion.

Perks or social gathering, etc.

Some will love more responsibility which usually comes with more power and you reward them with more money. That’s probably the most spread strategy.

BUT, some people enjoy less responsibility, repetitive jobs, patterns where they don’t have to think too much. Those people will respect if you make it even easier for them, like making procedures and simpler processes.

Also, extremely creative people who highly value freedom will be motivated by exactly that. So give them more opportunities to have fun. Provide them with the context where they can use their potential and improve your product/service.

Others just need more recognition, giving them feedback or telling them what you appreciate in the way they do their job.

Or taking care after them by gifting them free spa day or organizing a team party or weekly dinners.

Maybe for you money is the easiest (yet not the favorite) way of motivating your team. But many times it’s not the right answer.

And finding the right answer will LAUNCH your team from good enough to smiling warming faces with a MISSION.
